Utility Providers charge different electricity rates. How much you save depends on the utility rates and solar policies in your area. Switching to solar can protect you against rising electricity rates in the future.
Net metering is the system that utilities use to credit solar system owners for the electricity produced by their panels. You only pay for the electricity that you use beyond what your solar system can generate. Net metering differs with each Utility Provider.
The size of your solar system will depend on how much electricity you use on a monthly basis as well as shading and weather conditions.
Solar panels are made of durable tempered glass and require little to no maintenance for the 25-35 years that they will generate power. You will most likely not need to clean your solar panels regularly.
Snow generally isn't heavy enough to cause structural issues with your panels, and since most panels are tilted the snow will slide off. If snow does accumulate, your panels are easy to clean.
If your solar system is connected to the grid, it will shut off if the power grid goes down. This is to prevent injuries to emergency responders and utility repair workers. In the event the power grid goes down, there are specific inverters that provide backup power when paired with a battery storage unit.
You can purchase inverters and battery storage to go completely off grid.
If you own your solar system, your solar house should sell at a premium. Studies have shown that solar increases property values.
